Favorite Links
Favorite places to photograph in Tennessee
The links above should provide directions. Most of these require some hiking. Respect our wild places. Do not litter or disturb wildlife or plants.
- The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Enough said. Anytime of the year. The Townsend area is much quieter.
- Big South Fork National Recreation Area. Many arches, rock shelters, rock bluffs, waterfalls, and spectacular fall colors especially around the Bandy Creek area.
- Natchez Trace Parkway. An area you have to work. Waterfalls, rural scenes, wildflowers, turkey, deer, bobcats. The spring season with the redbuds and dogwoods can be great in the Meriwether Lewis area and other sections.
- Grundy Forest SNA. Rock bluffs, waterfalls, wildflowers. Home of the Fiery Gizzard Trail, one of the most beautiful trails in the nation. See also nearby Foster Falls and Savage Gulf .
- Savage Gulf. Overlooks, waterfalls, gulfs (canyons).
- Reelfoot Lake. Bald eagles, migratory birds, and cypress trees. Tennessee's only natural lake formed by an earthquake. January and February are best for eagles and migratory birds. Summer for lotus blooms.
- Frozen Head State Park. Second to only the Smokies for wildflowers and maybe not really second! Spring for wildflowers.
- Short Springs SNA. Spectacular spring wildflowers.
